me and my husband have been together 4 years now and always tried to watch out when he felt the cold sores coming on I just got diagnose with genital herpes but I do not have cold sores on my mouth and we kiss all the time why would it skip over? what are the chances of me passing genital herpes to him?

If you have had cold sore in the past, can your partner get the herpes simplex virus from you even if you don’t have a present cold sore or genital herpes simplex virus?

i heard somewhere that having or catching oral herpes (cold sores) gives a 70% protection from genital herpes after a period of time? is this true?
so, if i go down on my gf and i have oral herpes, will she get oral herpes? or genital herpes? since there different viruses?

My best friend told me that she is being tested for herpes after finding what she thought was a cut on her vagina. The Dr. stated it was not a cut and her professional opinion was it is herpes. She thinks she was exposed when her husband (who has not shown any signs of herpes in the past and was supposedly STD free) gave her oral sex when he had a fever blister. I have never heard of this before. Does this mean two individuals without herpes can give herpes to each other through oral sex with a cold sore ? And then you cannot ever cure herpes? That is so scary, I hope it is not true!!! Do you think her husband actually cheated on her and caught herpes?

If someone has a dried cold sore on their lip and it stopped draining can they give someone genital herpes via oral sex? And the oral didnt occur directly on the vagina, just around the area.

is there anything you can do to prevent infection with herpes 1 virus immediately after exposure, or is it too late? If you get a cold sore, what medication can be used to shorten the duration of the cold sore, prevent bacterial infections, reduce pain, etc.? If you don’t become ill, Is there anything the spouse can take to prevent/reduce recurrent infections?
