Cuts, scrapes, puncture wounds
Prevention: Keep sharp objects away from children and never leave a child alone
Treatment: 1.) Wash your hands (if possible) before treating injury.
2.) Wash wound with soap, water, alcohol wipe, hydrogen peroxide
3.) Pat dry
4.) Apply band aid or gauze
5.) If object inside wound call parents immediately
Burns and sunburns
Prevention: Handles of pots or pans should be turned in on stove when cooking. Don’t wear loose clothes when cooking. Wait for the kids to get in bath until water is not too hot nor cold. Don’t leave children in sun for long periods of time.
Treatment: 1st degree: Vinegar, cold water, bactine, ETC
2nd degree: Don’t pop blisters! Cover from air with gauze pad or clean cloth- use water to realive pain
3rd degree: Cover areas in clean cloth and get help
Animal bites
Prevention: Don’t get near animals not known in family
Treatment: Confine animal. Wash wound(s) with soap and water. Apply clean bandage or cloth. If injury seems serious seek medical help fast. Call and tell parents what happened.
Insect bites
Prevention: Bug spray
Treatment: Remove stinger, if possible, and wash area. Apply soothing lotions. If severe swelling or shortness of breath call 911.
Human bites
Prevention: Hard to prevent
Treatment: Wash wound(s) with soap and water. Apply clean bandage or cloth. Call parents.
Poisoning
Prevention: Keep medication away from children along with stools by medical section.
Treatment: Call poison control tell age, amount consumed, vomiting (save vomit in container)
Nosebleeds
Prevention: Difficult to prevent
Treatment: Sit down and pinch nose and tilt head forward.
Earache
Symptoms: Pain, crying, rubbing or tugging at ear, holding hand over ear, slight fever
Treatment: Apply warm compress or hot water bag to ear to help relieve pain. Contact parents for medication to give child.
Fever
Symptoms: Skin hot and red or blotchy. Appetite is usually poor. Eyes are red and tearing. Acts tired and has a headache.
Treatment: Get thermometer and take child’s temperature every 30 to 60 minutes and record. Give medication after discussing with parents. Comfort child until parents arrive home.
Headache
Treatment: Encourage rest and give icepack.

Games
Ages 6 months to a year
Blink with me:
Blink your eyes and see if the child can do the same. Blink twice see if the child will repeat.
Pour and pick up:
Pour toys out of a bucket and put them back in the bucket. Repeat.
The little piggy: Say “this little piggy….” for all five toes and squeeze while talking.
Peek a boo: Put your hands over face and take off hands and say “Peek a boo” repeatedly.
Ages 1 year to 2 years
Jump the river: Put down two jump ropes and have child jump over rope each time move rope a bit farther apart.
Hunter: Through a stuffed animal and have the child run and get the animal as fast as they can and bring it back.
Pull match: Pull out different colored objects and match them with child.
Ages 3 years to 5 years
Duck, Duck, goose: Children sit in a circle. A player goes around the circle saying “Duck” to each player as he/she touches their head. He/she says goose and the player who is goose has to touch he/she before he/she makes it to their spot.
Hide and seek dance: The same thing as hide and seek except when player gets found they do a dance.
Zoo keeper: One child plays zoo keeper and the other children get to choose to be an animal. The zoo keeper has to catch each animal and put them in the cage (a chosen area). When all animals are caught the animal that was caught first gets to be the zoo keeper next time.
Ring around the Rosie: Everyone holds hand in a circle and sing “Ring around the Rosie, pockets full of….” and then when we sing “and they all fall down” everyone releases hands and fall back.
Ages five and up
Mirror, mirror: Two players look at each other and try to be a mirror of each other.
Freeze dance: Everyone dances until the radio goes off. If someone is still moving when the music stops then they are out.
Simon says: Everyone repeats what “example Valerie” does. If Valerie says “Simon says touch the floor” everyone should tou
