Sometimes you're not allowed to use pools when you have an open cold sore, depends on the establishment, but it wouldn't hurt you any. Cold sores are caused by a virus (herpes type), that usually your immune system has no problem suppressing but if your immune system is compromised somehow (like overly stressed out, too much caffeine, not enough sleep, etc..) then at times it has a hard time keeping the virus under control and you get a sore on your lip, and I have heard taking Lysine speeds up the healing and have also heard from one DR that applying Pepto Bismal to the blistered area also speeds up healing.http://www.emedicinehealth.com/cold_sores/page2_em.htm#Cold%20Sore%20Causes

it is the herpes virus, chlorination shouldn't affect it, medicated ointment and time will resolve it, but herpes will resurface at some point again...it is a chronic condition that lasts a life time, you got it from kissing or oral sex w/someone who has herpes.

sorry, cold sores are herpes. the virus stays in you body for life, so you may have contracted it months ago and now it is presenting itself. if you have never kissed someone or had sex then i would tell you it isn't a cold sore, otherwise that is how you got it. sorry to break it to you. but don't feel bad it is very common.

cold sores are caused when you have contact with an infected person or something that touched their body. there is no cure for cold sores so they will always come back around.

the pool should not be a problem.

Cold sores can be caused by almost anything,

Stress, Vitiam B12 deficency, Iron deficency, allergy, some are even caused by your own body attacking itself... Things like smoking, rec drugs, choclate, caffine, etc... I really wouldnt worry about it, its basically like pimple, harmless but annoying, and no one really knows where they come from.

They can be caused by more serious thing like cancer, gingivitis, herpes, but usaully this outbreaks are much more extreme in nature and require a doctor visist. Usaully mutiple outbreaks.

You can use Bonjela OTC, also baking soda will work in a jam...

Don't worry! Shinpai Shinaide! There is special chapstick that you can buy at walmart that helps coldsores heal faster...and something called abreeva??? anyways, the water shouldn't hurt it, maybe cold sores are from having a cold or maybe you get them during cold weather?? I don't know!!

As you now know they will come back. The best way to keep them away is to take L-Lysine. 500mg. a day. Abreva will help it now, but for the long run you need to keep it from coming back. If you take this and you feel another one coming on, you can up it to 1000 mg. a day for 2 weeks or until it's gone. Good luck.
