To some extent cold sores simply have to run their course. Here are some home remedies that may help, but nothing is likely to clear a cold sore quicker than three days or so:

Tea Tree Oil. Tea Tree Oil has to be one of the best items to have in your house. Not only does it cure cold sores, but it works great for bad acne and many other things. To get rid of a cold sore, as soon as you feel the tingle, place a dab of the tea tree oil on the sore. (In the morning and night.) And by the third day, it should be gone.

Aloe is another good idea, but one should use the inner filets of fresh aloe vera plant for by far the best results.

Hydrogen peroxide alone usually works very well and is reported to be faster working than tea tree oil.

Perhaps the best remedy would be a combination approach where you use tea tree oil, hydrogen peroxide and colloidal silver. First apply hydrogen peroxide, then some colloidal silver, and then cover it with alternating treatments of tea tree oil and aloe (or combine the two together). You might boost the treatment with some internal natural anti-virals such as olive leaf extract, freshly minced garlic (allow to stand for 15 minutes before consuming) and the colloidal silver. Try not to worry (that might just make it worse) and get plenty of rest. One day may be asking a bit much but a couple to three days might be doable. Tea tree oil alone usually works by the third day.

One home remedy that is reported to be effective is Nyquil night time cold medicine applied topically. Dab on the cold sore with a Q-tip type cotton swab. Relieves pain and swelling. Be sure to apply at night and leave on all night. You should see almost immediate improvement and great results in as little as three days.

For future reference, avoiding stress and eating a healthy diet may help lessen the frequency of cold sore outbreaks.

The oil behind your ear is about as good as anything. Rub your finger behind your ear and then rub the oil on the cold sore. You might not want to wash behind your ear for a couple of days to accumulate more oil. Did you know that cold sores are a form of herpes?

I see that 2 mentally challenged individuals gave me a thumbs down.

Cold sores generally clear up without treatment in seven to 10 days. Topical symptomatic treatments such as topical lidocaine or benzyl alcohol (Zilactin) may help relieve symptoms.

Using an antiviral medication may modestly shorten the duration of cold sores and decrease your pain, if started very early. If you experience very frequent bouts, your doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication as a cold sore treatment or to prevent cold sores.
