If you feel the first signs of the tingling sensation before the blisters erupt (called the ‘prodrome’) you can apply ice to it, intermittently, and this can in some c ases alleviate or stop the outbreak altogether..

It is sometimes thought that poor diet,illness, emotional and or physical stress, even exposure to sunlight and other factors can cause the eruptions, but there are over the counter medications, along with ice therapy that can be tried safely to diminish outbreaks and make you more comfortable.

Prescription medications in pill/topical form can also be prescribed if outbreaks are severe enough.
