Yes, it could be a cold sore, and yes, outbreaks could be that far apart. Cold sores, sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal after several days to 2 weeks.
The absolute best treatment for cold sores is a prescription medication in pill form called Valtrex. It was intended for genital herpes, but cold sores are caused by the same family of viruses, and Valtrex stops colds sores in their tracks. None of the other treatments come close to the effectiveness of Valtrex, not the ointments and not Abreva or anything else. Ask your doctor about it to see if you would be a good candidate for the meds if you get another attack. My doctor prescribed it for me for cold sores about five years ago and after taking it only a couple of times I hardly ever get a cold sore any more, and I was having several attacks a year. On the rare occasions that I do get one, it is gone almost immediately when I take the medication - in about a day.
In the meantime, here are a couple of informative links.
Could be a cold sore or fever blister. They are from the herpes family EVERYONE has them. The virus lays dorment untill you bodys immune system is weakend by stress or other factors. They usually take 7 to 10 days to run there course. Try over the counter meds and there are herbal/vitamins too ask ur local drug store to help find it it starts with an L……Also if they become REALLY bad go to your DR and get Valtrex they work great and Valtrex is an antiviral med that is used for chicken pox, shingles and cold sores…Good luck hope I was help…

Most likely it is a cold sore or fever blister. Some of us a prone to getting them while others never ecxperience them at all. Most people have 1 to 12 outbreaks a year, but have fewer outbreaks as they get older.
